We should stop treating online learning as an alternative

EVERY time heavy rains fall, floods rise, temperatures become unbearable, or a typhoon approaches, our schools and workplaces go through a familiar ritual. Classes are suspended. Offices announce work-from-home arrangements. Universities “shift online.” Meetings move to Zoom. We call this shifting online as if we are temporarily leaving the normal world and entering an alternative one.
